Racquetball or Wallyball
We have one court that is used for racquetball or wallyball. Booking privileges vary and court fees are charged per person per hour; memberships are available. Please carry in clean shoes. Wallyball is played for either one or two hours for the same cost. Except for wallyball, two consecutive hours may not be reserved in advance. Residents have a seven-day booking priority; non-residents may only reserve courts 24 hours in advance. Proof of residency is required at every visit and a waiver must be signed yearly. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver.

Weight Room
Our weight room has Body Master equipment. We have a separate cardiovascular room with treadmills, lifecycle, stepper and other equipment. You must be 14 years old and in high school to use the room unattended. Grade school children age 12 and older must have direct parental supervision. Yearly waivers must be completed and signed prior to working out. A parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver if you are not 18 years old. No one under the age of 12 years is permitted to use the weight room. Proof of residency is required, and you must leave your driver’s license or other I.D. at the desk on every visit. If you are not working out, you are not allowed in the weight room.

Game Room
This is a recreational room for children of all ages. We have several video games, ping pong, pool, bumper pool, pinball games, gockey, foosball, basketball, air hockey and PlayStation. The days Rosemont School and East Leyden have no classes we will also open 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Outside Basketball Courts
The outdoor basketball courts are available to be used for basketball or ten-ball. The courts are lighted and can be used for games or just shooting. Sometimes the Park may reserve the courts for a class or a kids’ 3 on 3 league. This area is not directly supervised; problems should be reported to the front desk. You cannot reserve the courts ahead of time. The courts are closed for the winter.

Swim lessons are offered through the Des Plaines Park District using the Rosemont Pool. Registration is taken at the Des Plaines Park District Leisure Center located at 2222 Birch Street (north off Touhy Avenue by Iroquois School). The phone number is 847-391-5700. Registration has already been held for the session beginning in September. If you are a Rosemont resident and no openings remain, please register for the class. Your name will be placed on the wait list. After you register, call the Rosemont Park District and tell us of your situation. Please register for swim lessons separately from any other programs. Registration for the next class session of swim lessons starting in January 2010 will begin November 30.

*Non-Resident families will be charged an additional $5.00 for each child after the fourth child

- A water pass entitles you to the use of both the splash pad and the indoor swimming pool.
- A pool pass is only for the use of the indoor swimming pool.
- A season water pass is available only to residents.
- A Grandparent’s water pass is available to resident grandparents whose grandchildren do not live in
Rosemont.  This pass allows a grandparent to bring their grandchildren to use either the splash pad or the
indoor swimming pool.
- If you lose your pass, the cost to replace that pass is $2.00 per pass.
- If you are a grandparent using a grandparent’s pass you must stay in the pool area or splash pad area with
your grandchild.  You may not bring them and leave; if you leave they must also leave.
- A family is defined as related persons living at the same address.
- Yearly passes go on sale each May 1st and half price passes are available on November 1st.
- A yearly waiver is required to use the water slide.  For those under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver.
- Swim caps are required for anyone with shoulder length hair.
Protected lap swimming is permitted only during the first 30 minutes each day the pool is open.
 
Swimming Lessons

The Learn to Swim program offered by the Des Plaines Park District follows the American Red Cross guidelines and is designed to teach all levels of swimming skills. Lessons are held at the Rosemont Pool from September through May. Please register your swimmer for the level most appropriate for their current ability. Swimmers will not be transferred to another level! Registration for all Learn to Swim programs ends one week prior to start date. Register for the next class session of swim lessons starting in January 2010 at the Leisure Center, 2222 Birch Street (north off Touhy Avenue by Iroquois School) beginning November 30. Rosemont residents may register as residents paying the lower resident rates. Please register for swim lessons separately from any other programs. If your swim class is filled, please compete registration. Your name will be placed on a wait list. After registering, call the Rosemont Park District and tell us of your situation.

Open Gym

After a break during August, open gym will begin again September 8. For high school gym times you must have and show identification. Be able to prove your age and residency, otherwise you may not be allowed in the gym or you will have to pay the non-resident fee. Children under the age of 6 years may attend open gym during any grade school times; an adult must accompany them at all times. Check the schedule closely, you may not be allowed in the gym if your age is not scheduled. Your non-resident friends can only come on certain days; check the schedule and be sure! Please do not arrive earlier than your scheduled time; you will not be allowed to just “hang out” in the lobby. Times are subject to change.

The gym will be closed: September 16; October 31; November 12, 20–21 & 26-27; December 2-3, 8-10, 24-25 & 31; January 1, 8-9 & 25-29; February 5-6, 12 & 27, March 6, 12-19 & 27 and April 21-24. The gym may be closed other days depending on school and park activities.

Basketball
Boys and Girls alike will enjoy learning the skills to advance them in the world of basketball. Even if you are trying it out for the first time, or you are a seasoned pro, you will have a ton of fun enhancing your skill level. Through games and drills, we will practice dribbling, passing, shooting, positions and the importance of teamwork. Games will be played at the end of each class.

Rosemont Cavaliers Lessons
Seven-time DCI World Champion Rosemont Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps will be offering rudimental and mallet percussion lessons for beginning, intermediate and advanced junior high and high school percussionists interested in marching and concert percussion (no drum set lessons available). Weekly lessons will be given on Thursday evenings, between the times of 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Times will be divided into increments of approximately 30 minutes per lesson at Lange Park in Rosemont. Some time may be available for a double lesson (60 minutes). Students interested in marching percussion can take lessons on a marching snare or multi-tenor. Mallet percussion students will take their initial lessons on a marimba or vibraphone. The Cavaliers will provide the instrument, and the students can bring their own sticks/mallets or purchase them at their initial lesson. Cost per 30-minute lesson is $21.00. Please contact the Cavaliers 847-685-8412 for more information and to schedule lessons. Lessons must be scheduled by at least the Monday before each lesson.

Drum Lessons
Are you interested in drum lessons? Instructor Tom Corrao will come to the park to offer lessons. Ages begin as young as 8 years old up through adults. Tom teaches beginning, intermediate and advanced studies including all styles from rock and jazz to funk and blues. Call the park for more information.

Kids First Flag Football League Program
Combining preparation with games. The entire League will focus on safety and skills preparation for the first two weeks and prior to games. Flag Football games will be played for 55 minutes starting in week 3 with players assigned to a flag football team. Players will keep the same team assignment for the remainder of the class. We conclude in week six with a Championship game! Parents are encouraged to stay and bring your cameras. Friday Night Food & Flick
If you have a movie (VHS or DVD) you would like to watch for Food & Flick, bring it in to Karen or Ralph to be approved and sign up for a day. You must sign up for your date and have the movie approved at least one month before the date. If you bring the movie, you do not have to pay.

Kids First Tumbling & Gymnastics
It is FUN!! Tumbling and Gymnastics are excellent ways to start your child on their way to balance and coordination. Each program within our tumbling and gymnastics series will cover more moves, from somersaults to flip-flops and walkovers. Instructors will instill confidence and starting points that develop gymnastics skills lasting a lifetime. Each drill will focus on body formation and balance – plus it is a great exercise! Kids First Sports requires parents be at least 30 to 40 feet away from children during class to avoid distraction. Due to the size of our room, this means parents are not allowed in the Thompson Room during class. Parents of the 3-4 year old children must stay in the building. The minimum number of students must be registered and paid in at least two of the three age groups a minimum of one week prior to the start of class or all three will be cancelled. Please do not wait until the last minute to register!!!

Come join your child for this Parent and Toddler class and make new friends. Enjoy important one on one time with your child during interactive play, music, movement, and stories all the while having tons of fun! Introductory learning, motor and social skills will be the focus of this class.

Clay Studio
You will learn the basics of hand building low-fire clay. Pieces will be glazed and fired; you will have the opportunity to be creative and develop your own style. Your registration fee does not include the clay or supplies. Clay will be available for purchase at the Park.

Adult Open Dodge Ball
Come out and join with friends and others for an evening of open dodge ball. New teams will be selected each day; you establish the rules you want to play by, or we do have on hand an abbreviated list of basic National Dodgeball League rules. This is not a league, there are no standings and no week-to-week competition; this is open dodge ball and the competition is that day between the teams chosen. Come for the fun and exercise!

Martial Arts
The Goshin Kai Martial Art Center offers youth and adult classes at Rosemont’s Willow Creek Club.

Weight Watchers
Weekly Weight Watchers meetings are now in Rosemont! Registration is handled by Weight Watchers and they offer 3 different options:

1. Monthly Pass for $39.95 each month which can be purchased at your meeting or online at www.weightwatchers.com. You receive unlimited meetings each month, free registration, free eTools and automatic renewal. Your new card is mailed every month.
2. 14-Week Savings Plan for $152.00 and you receive 14 meeting coupons and free registration. Missed week fees must be paid in order to keep your membership current. You will need to re- enroll after four consecutive absences.
3. Pay As You Go, $20.00 Registration Fee and $12.00 Weekly Fee. Missed week fees must be paid in order to keep your membership current. You will need to re-enroll after four consecutive absences.

Adult Yoga
This multi-level class includes levels one and two. Class is 45 minutes of stretching and postures, followed by 15 minutes of relaxation and meditation. Hatha Yoga is physical yoga, coordinating the breath, mind and muscular system. Students bring a mat or towel to workout on and a water bottle.

Senior’s Casino Trip
We will be in the casino from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. During that time you may have lunch if you desire. You are on your own for lunch. You may pay for the buffet lunch, go to the snack shop or the restaurant or use the entire time to gamble. You gamble at your own risk. The bus will leave for home no later than 3:15 pm

Special Senior Shopping/Dinner Trip
In addition to the weekly shopping bus, the Park offers a special shopping and dinner trip on a Sunday several times each year. We will choose different malls and shopping centers around the area and you choose a restaurant for dinner. Call the Park office at 847-823-6685 to register for each outing or for more information. These outings are for residents only. If we do not have a minimum of 8 people registered, the trip will be cancelled. The bus will leave from and return to the Senior Center parking lot. For this trip you decide on the restaurant when you arrive and tell the driver. If you have a location you would like to recommend for a future trip, please call the Park.

Shopping
Are you unable to get to the store, bank or post office?  The Park offers a weekly shopping bus.
The bus will make stops at the post office, US Bank, Jewel, Dominick’s, Target and K-Mart instead of
Target on the last week of the month.  Please contact the Park for more information.

THE SHOPPING BUS WILL RUN ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, INSTEAD OF THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27.
